The deal lets shoppers using Meta’s Muse AI agent check out at PayPal merchants, adding to PayPal’s growing list of agentic commerce partnerships with Google and Mastercard.
PayPal has partnered with Meta on agentic shopping, the company said in a Tuesday (Sept. 22) post on the social platform X.
“We’re excited to partner with [Meta] to enable PayPal customers to seamlessly shop and check out using their [Muse] personal AI agents across PayPal merchants worldwide,” the company said in its post.
Meta launched Muse on Sept. 8, describing it as a personal AI agent “built for everyone.” Muse is designed to be simple to use, with users communicating with the agent in the Muse app or in WhatsApp as if they were messaging another person.
At launch, Muse was equipped with Link, built by Stripe, which enabled it to accept payments at checkout. PYMNTS reported Monday (Sept. 21) that Link has more than 300 million users and is accepted at more than 1 million businesses. At those businesses, Muse checks out using the shopper’s saved payment method; everywhere else, Link issues a single-use virtual card scoped to an approved purchase, and the shopper approves the total in chat. The same report said Muse reached the No. 1 spot on Apple’s App Store ranking 10 days after launch.
PayPal executives said during a July earnings call that the company is preparing for a commerce environment in which AI agents, digital identity and financial services could change what the checkout button needs to do. PayPal expects agentic payments and digital identity to become more significant in 2028 and beyond.

PayPal announced in September 2025 that it was collaborating with Google on agentic shopping and commerce experiences and other initiatives to advance agentic commerce. The companies’ multiyear strategic partnership brings together PayPal’s global payment infrastructure, personalization and identity solutions with Google’s AI expertise to create new AI shopping experiences and develop standards for agentic commerce.
In October, PayPal and Mastercard deepened their partnership to bring agentic transactions into the mainstream. The companies said Mastercard’s Agent Pay platform would be integrated into PayPal’s branded checkout wallet, allowing PayPal users to make purchases guided by AI assistants, with Mastercard providing the secure payment rails behind the scenes.
