Google just wrapped up its big keynote at I/O 2025. As expected, the event was packed with AI-driven announcements, ranging from advancements in Google’s image and video generation models to new features in Search and Gmail. The event also held a few surprises, such as a new AI filmmaking app and a significant update to Project Starline. If you didn’t catch the live event, you can find a comprehensive roundup of everything you missed below.

Google’s AI Mode for Search is Coming to Everyone

Google has announced the rollout of AI Mode, a new tab that revolutionizes web searches by enabling them to be powered by the company’s Gemini AI chatbot. This feature is becoming available to all users in the US starting this week. Google plans to test new features in AI Mode this summer, including deep search capabilities and integrated chart generation for finance and sports queries. The ability to shop directly within AI Mode is also slated for release in the “coming months.”

Project Starline is Now Google Beam

Project Starline, originally conceived as a 3D video chat booth, is taking a substantial leap forward. It’s evolving into Google Beam, set to launch soon inside an HP-branded device. This innovative setup will feature a light field display and six cameras, meticulously designed to render a lifelike 3D image of your conversation partner during video calls. Leading companies like Deloitte, Duolingo, and Salesforce have already committed to integrating HP’s Google Beam devices into their offices.

Imagen and Veo Are Getting Some Big Upgrades

Google has announced Imagen 4, the latest version of its AI text-to-image generator, which boasts improved text generation and offers expanded export formats, including square and landscape. Its next-gen AI video generator, Veo 3, enables synchronized video and sound generation, while Veo 2 has been enhanced with tools like advanced camera controls and object removal.

Google Launches an AI Filmmaking App

Beyond enhancements to its existing AI models, Google is launching a new AI filmmaking app called Flow. This powerful tool leverages Veo, Imagen, and Gemini to create eight-second AI-generated video clips from text prompts or images. Flow also features intuitive scene-builder tools to seamlessly stitch these clips together, allowing users to create longer, comprehensive AI videos.

Gemini 2.5 Pro Adds an “Enhanced” Reasoning Mode

The experimental Deep Think mode, designed for complex queries related to math and coding, has been added to Gemini 2.5 Pro. It allows the model to consider multiple hypotheses before responding, initially available only to trusted testers. Google has also made its cost-efficient Gemini 2.5 Flash model available to everyone on its Gemini app, and is bringing further improvements to this model within Google AI Studio ahead of a wider rollout.

Xreal Shows Off Its Project Aura Prototype

Xreal and Google are collaborating on Project Aura, a new pair of smart glasses powered by the Android XR platform for mixed-reality experiences. While details remain limited, the glasses will feature Gemini integration, a wide field-of-view, and appear to include built-in cameras and microphones. Google is also partnering with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker on additional Android XR smart glasses

Google’s Experimental AI Assistant Is Getting More Proactive

Project Astra, already capable of using your phone’s camera to “see” objects around you, has an updated prototype that allows it to complete tasks proactively on your behalf, even without explicit prompting. For instance, the model can initiate conversation based on its visual observations, such as pointing out a mistake on your homework.

Gemini Is Coming to Chrome

Google is integrating its AI assistant directly into Chrome. Beginning May 21st, Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can access the Gemini button in Chrome to clarify or summarize webpage content and navigate sites efficiently. Later this year, Google plans to enable Gemini to operate across multiple tabs simultaneously.

Google’s New AI Ultra Plan Costs $250 Per Month

Google is introducing a new “AI Ultra” subscription, providing access to its most advanced AI models and elevated usage limits across apps such as Gemini, NotebookLM, Flow, and others. This subscription also grants early access to Gemini in Chrome and an enhanced Project Mariner, which can now handle up to 10 tasks concurrently.

Search Live Will Let You Discuss What’s On Your Camera in Real-Time

Building on Project Astra’s capabilities, Google is launching Search Live, a feature that integrates the AI assistant’s real-time visual understanding. By selecting the new “Live” icon in AI Mode or Lens, users can engage in a real-time, conversational interaction with Search while streaming video from their camera. Following the free availability of Gemini Live’s screen-sharing feature for all Android users last month, Google has also announced its free availability for iOS users.

Google’s New Tool Uses AI to Create App Interfaces

Google has unveiled Stitch, a new AI-powered tool capable of generating app interfaces based on selected themes and descriptive input. Users can also guide Stitch’s output by incorporating wireframes, rough sketches, or screenshots of existing UI designs. This experiment is currently accessible via Google Labs.

Google Meet Adds AI Speech Translation

Google Meet is introducing a new feature for near real-time AI speech translation, converting your spoken words into your conversation partner’s preferred language. Initially supporting English and Spanish, this feature is rolling out in beta to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.

Gmail’s Smart Replies Will Soon Pull Info from Your Inbox

Gmail’s Smart Reply feature, leveraging AI to suggest email responses, will soon draw information from your inbox and Google Drive to craft personalized replies that better reflect your communication style. It will also consider the recipient’s tone, enabling suggestions for more formal responses in professional conversations, for instance. These upgraded Smart Replies will be available in English across the web, iOS, and Android, launching through Google Labs in July.

Google Is Going Big on AI Shopping

Google is piloting a new feature that allows users to upload a full-length photo of themselves to visualize how shirts, pants, dresses, or skirts might appear. This is powered by an AI model specifically designed to understand the human body and the intricate nuances of clothing. Google will also soon enable shopping directly within AI Mode, alongside an “agentic checkout” feature capable of making purchases on your behalf.

Google Chrome Will Soon Help You Update Compromised Passwords

If Chrome detects a compromised password, Google states the browser will soon be able to generate a strong replacement and automatically update it on supported websites. This feature is set to launch later this year, with Google emphasizing that it will always seek user consent before making any password changes.
