Infosys completes a major data overhaul for CSX using Microsoft Fabric and AI tools, consolidating legacy systems into a unified, cloud-based platform.
Infosys said it has completed a large-scale data modernization program for CSX Corporation, consolidating the railroad operator’s fragmented data systems into a unified, cloud-native platform built with Microsoft technologies and generative AI tools.
The transformation — described as one of the largest of its kind in the transportation and logistics sector — was delivered using Infosys Topaz™, the company’s AI-first suite of services and platforms, alongside Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Purview.
Infosys led the end-to-end initiative, replacing legacy systems with a governed data environment designed to improve decision-making, streamline reporting and reduce infrastructure costs. The program automated metadata governance across 28 domains and created more than 170 data products to support AI-driven analytics, self-service reporting and Azure monitoring.
As part of the overhaul, CSX consolidated more than 50,000 legacy reports into roughly 1,200 standardized, actionable insights, according to company executives. The modernization has resulted in annual infrastructure savings and established a foundation for predictive analytics, logistics optimization and enterprise-wide operational intelligence.
John Maio, assistant vice president of enterprise data and analytics at CSX, said the transformation has accelerated real-time analytics and laid the groundwork for predictive maintenance and operational efficiency.
