AWS and Google Cloud Announce Unified Multicloud Network

Must read

AWS and Google Cloud unveil a jointly engineered solution using Interconnect – multicloud and Cross-Cloud Interconnect to simplify and automate high-speed multicloud networking.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud have announced a jointly engineered networking solution designed to simplify the complex process of connecting multi-layered cloud environments. The collaboration transforms what was previously a “do-it-yourself” challenge for organizations into a managed, cloud-native experience.

The new solution leverages both AWS Interconnect, a multicloud service, and Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect to enable customers to establish private, high-speed connectivity between the two major cloud providers, with significantly increased automation and speed.

Historically, establishing such connections required customers to manually set up physical components and coordinate complex internal and external teams—a process that often took weeks or months to complete. This new approach abstracts the complexity of physical infrastructure management, allowing customers to provision dedicated bandwidth on demand and establish connectivity in minutes through their preferred cloud console or API.

“This collaboration between AWS and Google Cloud represents a fundamental shift in multicloud connectivity,” said Robert Kennedy, VP of Network Services at AWS. “Customers no longer need to worry about any heavy lifting to create their desired connectivity. When they need multicloud connectivity, it’s ready to activate in minutes with a simple point and click.”

The partnership also introduces a new open specification for network interoperability, inviting other cloud service providers and partners to adopt the API standards, thereby further simplifying global connectivity across the industry.

Reliability and Security

The two technology giants emphasized that the solution is designed for high resiliency, utilizing quad-redundancy across physically redundant facilities and routers. Security is foundational, utilizing MACsec encryption between the Google Cloud and AWS edge routers, while both providers engage in continuous monitoring to ensure proactive issue resolution.

Rob Enns, VP/GM of Cloud Networking at Google Cloud, stated, “This collaboration enables our customers to move their data and applications between clouds with simplified global connectivity and enhanced operational effectiveness… delivering on Google Cloud’s Cross-Cloud Network solution focused on delivering an open and unified multicloud experience.”

Major enterprise customers are already adopting the solution. Jim Ostrognai, SVP Software Engineering at Salesforce, noted that the native, streamlined experience “accelerates our customers’ ability to ground their AI and analytics in trusted data, regardless of where it resides.”
