Vertiv and Caterpillar will co-develop integrated on-site energy and cooling solutions to speed deployment, cut PUE, and power next-gen AI data centers.
Vertiv, a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, and Caterpillar Inc., a global leader in power systems, today announced a major strategic undertaking. The companies will collaborate to deliver advanced energy optimization solutions for the data center industry.
This initiative is designed to integrate Vertiv’s power distribution and cooling portfolio with Caterpillar’s and its subsidiary Solar Turbines’ expertise in power generation, including CCHP (Combined Cooling, Heat, and Power). The goal is to offer pre-designed architectures that will simplify deployment, accelerate time-to-power, and optimize the overall performance of data center operations.
A Coordinated Approach to On-Site Power
This collaboration directly addresses the rapidly increasing need for reliable, on-site energy solutions to support the growing demands of data centers, particularly those driven by AI workloads. By combining their respective technologies and expertise, the companies can offer fully integrated solutions with validated interfaces.
- Caterpillar and Solar Turbines will supply power generation solutions, including natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines, providing dependable, scalable electric and thermal energy for CCHP systems.
- Vertiv will contribute a comprehensive portfolio of power and cooling solutions and services, packaged into modular, pre-designed blocks to shorten design cycles and standardize deployment.

Key Advantages for Customers
The combined offering focuses on enhancing efficiency and deployment speed:
| Customer Advantage | Benefit |
| Accelerates Time-to-Power | Utilizes pre-designed, modular reference architectures to speed up deployment drastically. |
| Lowers PUE | Enables improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon footprint through an optimized end-to-end system (power, cooling, distribution, and dynamic load management). |
| Global Lifecycle Support | The solutions are backed by the trusted, expansive global service and support networks of both Vertiv and Caterpillar. |
Strategic Vision for AI and Grid Independence
Gio Albertazzi, CEO of Vertiv, positioned the partnership as a core element of the company’s strategy. “This collaboration… is a cornerstone of our Bring Your Own Power & Cooling (BYOP&C) strategy,” he said, noting that it aligns with Vertiv’s grid-to-chip framework by offering resilient, on-site power generation. This is crucial for customers seeking to reduce or eliminate dependence on the utility grid.
Jason Kaiser, Group President of Caterpillar Power & Energy, affirmed the necessity of the alliance: “As AI-driven workloads continue to accelerate, the demand for robust and scalable power infrastructure and cooling is becoming increasingly critical. Our collaboration with Vertiv will enable us to deliver integrated, on-site energy solutions that lower PUE and meet customers’ evolving needs.”
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) represents a pivotal step toward enabling customers to overcome energy constraints and rapidly deploy optimized, high-density AI centers through a coordinated, customer-first solution.
