Accenture to Acquire Ookla for Network AI Insights

Must read

Accenture will acquire Ookla, creator of Speedtest and Downdetector, to expand network intelligence and help enterprises optimize AI, 5G and Wi-Fi infrastructure.

Accenture has agreed to acquire Ookla, a global leader in network intelligence and connectivity analytics, to strengthen data-driven insights for enterprises and telecommunications providers as AI adoption accelerates.

The acquisition will integrate Ookla’s portfolio of data products — including Speedtest, Downdetector, Ekahau and RootMetrics — into Accenture’s capabilities. The combined offering is intended to help communications service providers, hyperscalers and enterprises optimize the Wi-Fi and 5G networks that underpin modern digital infrastructure.

“Modern networks have evolved from simple infrastructure into business-critical platforms,” said Julie Sweet, chair and chief executive of Accenture. “Without the ability to measure performance, organizations cannot optimize experience, revenue, or security. By acquiring Ookla, we will help clients across business and government scale AI safely and build the trusted data foundations needed to deliver reliable connectivity.”

Data at the Center of AI Infrastructure

As artificial intelligence systems scale, network performance data is becoming increasingly valuable across industries. Insights captured at the network, device and application layers can help banks detect fraud, utilities analyze smart-home activity and retailers optimize traffic patterns across digital and physical environments.

Ookla’s platform collects more than 1,000 attributes per connectivity test, generating granular data about network performance and user experience.

Headquartered in Seattle, Ookla operates several widely recognized brands in connectivity measurement and diagnostics.

Applications Across Industries

Accenture said Ookla’s data and analytics capabilities will support a range of industry use cases:

  • Communications service providers: Real-time network benchmarking and predictive analytics can improve infrastructure planning and reduce operational costs.
  • Hyperscalers and cloud providers: Connectivity insights help ensure resilience for AI infrastructure and edge data centers that support inference workloads.
  • Enterprises: Ekahau’s hardware and software tools help organizations design, monitor and troubleshoot private 5G and Wi-Fi networks.

“With the Ookla portfolio, we will offer end-to-end network intelligence services essential for AI-based transformation,” said Manish Sharma, chief strategy and services officer at Accenture. “In an era of omnichannel and agent-driven access, low-latency, zero-friction connectivity is becoming a competitive necessity.”

A Global Connectivity Data Platform

Founded in 2006 and operating as a division of Ziff Davis, Ookla employs roughly 430 specialists across software engineering, radio frequency engineering and data science.

Its platform is powered by more than 250 million consumer-initiated tests each month, alongside controlled drive, walk and embedded testing programs. The combination provides detailed insights into network performance, radio frequency signals and user experience.

“Joining Accenture will allow us to scale our network data capabilities across the world’s largest enterprises,” said Stephen Bye, chief executive of Ookla. “Together, we will redefine how organizations measure, understand and experience connectivity.”

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Financial terms were not disclosed.
