KU Leuven spin-off Runeasi secures €1M to expand its AI-powered running analysis platform, helping coaches and physiotherapists deliver data-driven training insights.
Runeasi, a KU Leuven spin-off specializing in AI-driven running and movement analysis, has raised €1 million in a new investment round to accelerate its international growth.
The round was led by Smarter Ventures, with additional backing from existing investors Freshmen Fund, Gemma Frisius Fund, the company’s founders, and angel investor Sean Gourley.
Founded to bridge the gap between biomechanics research and everyday sports practice, Runeasi provides an accessible platform that allows physiotherapists, coaches, and specialty running stores to conduct detailed movement analyses without expensive laboratory equipment.
The system relies on an AI-powered motion sensor worn in a lightweight sports belt. The device captures biomechanical data during running or jumping, which is then transformed into personalized reports offering practical recommendations for rehabilitation, training optimization, and injury prevention.
The company’s core mission is pragmatic: turning complex scientific insights into tools that practitioners can actually use.

From Research Lab to Global Reach
That approach has found broad appeal. Runeasi is now used in more than 40 countries and has facilitated over 50,000 running analyses to date. The United States has emerged as its largest market.
Beyond clinics and coaches, the platform is also being adopted by sports footwear brands seeking objective performance testing and scientific validation for new products.
“Our goal has always been to make biomechanical expertise accessible to every practitioner,” said CEO Kurt Schütte. “This investment allows us to take the next step.”
Schütte said the new funding will primarily support international expansion, particularly in the U.S., while strengthening the company’s established presence in Belgium.

Recognition and Next Steps
At the end of 2025, Runeasi was named among Belgium’s fastest-growing AI scale-ups—a milestone that Schütte and co-founder and CTO Tim Op De Béeck say validates the company’s evidence-based approach.
The pair emphasizes that AI is not a marketing buzzword for Runeasi but a practical tool rooted in rigorous science.
“We focus on scientific integrity and real-world usefulness,” Op De Béeck said. “AI should serve professionals—not replace their expertise.”
With fresh capital, growing global adoption, and a clear niche at the intersection of sports science and artificial intelligence, Runeasi is positioning itself as a quiet but influential player in the rapidly expanding world of performance technology.
